New Jersey Homework Frustration!!!

Everyone is going to have to listen to me complain a little bit. I need to talk about all my frustration with Carson's homework!
First of all this is only 3rd grade. We all need to remember that. He had to make a mobile and do a report on historical fiction. His was about the Revolutionary War. This took us two weeks to do not including reading the book. On top of having a project the teacher feels like she should give the children homework EVERY single day, including weekends!
This is a little of what he does everyday. First he has a multiplication worksheet, write 15 spelling words in cursive, 3 pages of spelling in notebook.
What tops it off is when Carson brought home this Morse Code sheet. She said he must write each spelling word in Morse Code. The next day it was: What is the value of your spelling word? For example- A=1, B=2, Z=26. Morning=90 Now, how many of you out there think this really means anything in the real world. It already takes my child 1 1/2 hours to do regular homework. Why in the world would we add this stupid, extra stuff????
So Monday morning this momma is going to make a phone call to have a meeting. Just to let you know I did not make my son do the Morse Code and wrote the teacher an email that he would not be doing it. The next day I did the value of his spelling words while he did his normal work. This has got to STOP!!!
At least the project is finished and he can turn that in on Monday and then a new week begins. I will save another day to share Middle School frustration! I'm not sure what is worse!
Thanks for listening:)

I'm laughing out loud. I agree that sounds like pointless homework it is just funny to hear you say it. I'm proud of ya! I would like to be a fly on the wall for your conference. Good luck!

Oh, side note does Scott know Ronny Marriot? He is the pastor at our new church and he is really good friends with Craig Miller. So, I thought their paths might have crossed.

I am so sorry... for you and for Carson! Homework stinks! Alex has less homework in Arkansas than he did in Florida and I am soooo thankful! At the beginning of every school year, we tell his teacher that we will support him/her but that it is very important to us that Alex gets to play after school and not do hours of homework. I am proud of you for sticking up for your kids! You are such a great mom!

Carson, your mobile turned out really cool! Good job!

Do you think the teacher might not be getting it done during the school day so she has to send it home? You know I'm a former teacher and usually stick up for them....but, maybe you should ask if you can sit in for the day and see how much is getting accomplished. She does have eight hours everday! That really seems like enough time to cover third grade material.
And if all else fails, just do the work for him and let him sign his name to the top. I think the parent in me will probably take over the teacher in me.
